Do what’s best for your dog, It’s okay to take a step back in your training! . . dogs can have regressions no matter what their age. When those things happen go back to basics. Especially when it comes to having a leash on in the home. Make it easier to show your dog what is and isn’t okay.
Sneak peek into an in person session. . . Here we are working with a young five month old shepherd puppy who doesn’t have the best engagement with her family and also has been able to do only screenings with most dogs. Here’s how we troubleshoot that and start to build up her relationship with her family over just me.
INVOLVE YOUR KIDS IN DOG TRAINING! . . Honestly, more often than not when I am teaching kids in the house they learn so much quicker than the adults do! Please involve everyone in the household if you want your dog to respect your children and their boundaries as well if your kids are not working with your dog, it is not going to happen. . . Make sure everyone in the house is on the same page and then your kids can have a nice, happy, healthy relationship with your dog and you don’t have to worry about anyone else because they know how to interact with them properly and your dog respects them. If you teach your kids to understand the signals of your dog, you were going to be so much less likely to have any incidents with your dog and your kids.
Icks but as a dog trainer. . . Honestly, it’s not so much of an ick as more of like I literally just want to help you and it hurts my heart. Because it’s like unless you’re taught how to use a prong collar you think it’s just gonna fix your dog but it doesn’t and then you’re still stuck in the same situation and still frustrated and your dogs are so frustrated and you don’t know what you’re doing. But if somebody could help you, would you want them to intervene or is that just like rude?

Here’s a look into a real life session with a five month old German shepherd puppy. And since you guys love to see you when I fall watch till the end. . . With Puppy everything is reps on reps on reps and doing behaviors they understand in new environment. Layla has a few Solly behaviors down already so I’ve really been practicing them in the backyard and whenever she is willingly offering those behaviors rewarding it as well.
Ecollars kind of a taboo thing in the dog world. You either love them or you don’t. Before I actually understood what an E collar was I truly was not a fan of it, just like a lot of things in the dog training World before I understood it. . . Now, before that, I really was one of those people that thought dogs should be able to run off leash and have a lot of freedom but I had absolutely no way of getting my dog back. That goes into a whole bunch of other stuff, like lack of relationship and lack of obedience, but safety, for my dog is always my top priority , and if she can live a happy healthy Offleash life while still having that line of communication to her that’s what makes me happy and that’s what also makes my dog happy. . . What are your thoughts on ecollar? totally open discussion I really just wanna know what you’re thinking and why.
Threshold and trigger stacking. . . A lot of times less is more when it comes to training our dogs we always see the potential that our dogs have, and we can tend to push it when we know what they can become. But really greed. short sessions are often more valuable than prolong sessions while your dog has to work really hard and get pushed past threshold and then they’re really not learning anything at that point.
Easy Peezy placemats set up. . . Placemats are seriously annoying to make all the time when I first started making them. It would literally take me 30 minutes to do one and I would cry a little bit on the inside and the outside. . . But what I found is that if you set it up all beforehand makes it a lot easier, when you bolt in the two end pieces first, so that it’s got some thing stable really helps out and then if that last part, putting the mat on an angle, makes your life completely different so let me know if you try it next time you set up a mat because I promise it will literally take less than five minutes.
You need to get to the why of your dogs behavior. . . Obedience alone is not going to help your dog. If you don’t understand the underlaying reasons of why your dog is showing a behavior it can’t be helped properly.

HOW IT STARTED

Hi I'm Lane, owner and head dog trainer at Kala's K9s, so who the heck is Kala? Kala is my first dog I ever personally owned and boy was she trouble. We all have to start somewhere, right? From birth dogs have been my life. Until Kala came into my life I did not realize how little I knew about dogs.


She challenged me and my skill set with dogs like no other. She was a reactive, intelligent and very sassy shepherd. I did not know how to handle her, I thought I trained her from the day I got her, but I really had no idea what I was doing aside from a few YouTube videos. We had so much reactivity and fear to work through to make her life better. From then I vowed to be the best owner, balanced dog trainer and friend I could possibly be to her. To educate myself in order to understand her, to give her the best, most confident life possible and that's what I want to help you do too. From basic obedience to loose leash walking, all the way to off leash e-collar training I'm here to help you build a better bond with you can your dog just like I did with mine.
